AEM and CEMA Formalize Partnership to Align Agricultural Equipment Standards
The Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) and the European Agricultural Machinery Association (CEMA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen advocacy and align regulatory frameworks for the agricultural equipment industry. This agreement aims to create a more favorable legislative and regulatory environment for manufacturers on both sides of the Atlantic and globally.
The MoU, signed last month at EIMA International in Bologna, Italy, and AEM’s Annual Conference in Palm Springs, California, establishes a framework for collaboration between the two organizations. It focuses on harmonizing practices, ensuring compliance, and achieving mutual recognition in key areas that influence agricultural equipment manufacturers.
“With the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding, AEM and CEMA look forward to enhanced collaboration to address key issues of importance and ensure alignment between Europe and the U.S.,” said Curt Blades, Senior Vice President at AEM.
Key Areas of Focus
The agreement identifies several priority areas for increased cooperation, including:
- Engine emissions – Addressing evolving regulatory requirements for emissions control.
- Autonomous equipment – Promoting innovation and safety in self-operating machinery.
- Cybersecurity – Enhancing digital security for agricultural technologies.
- Machine safety and technical requirements – Aligning safety standards across regions.
- Advanced agricultural technology – Driving forward innovations to improve farming efficiency.
- Sustainability – Supporting environmentally friendly solutions for agricultural equipment.
Strengthening Transatlantic Ties
Jelte Wiersma, Secretary General of CEMA, highlighted the significance of the partnership. “This agreement strengthens the transatlantic connection between AEM and CEMA, supporting agricultural equipment manufacturers as they develop products that help feed the world.”
By aligning on these shared priorities, the two organizations aim to help the industry navigate global markets while advancing innovation, safety, and sustainability standards for manufacturers and farmers alike.
